Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the relationship betweena number of support givers and satisfaction in receiving support towardthe degree of depression in mothers who have mentally retarded children.This study is an on-experimental analytic correlation with cross sectionaldesign. The sample of the study consisted of 31 mothers chosen withpurposive sampling technique. Research instruments used in this studywere Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) and Social SupportQuestionnaire (SSQ). Data analysis used Pearson Product Moment.There was no association between quantity of support givers and degreeof depression on the respondents. There was a significant negativeassociation between satisfaction in receiving social support and degreeof depression on the repondents.Keywords: social support, depression, mentally retarded children
