Abstract

This cross sectional study was aimed to analyze thedeterminants of the behavior of patients in the prevention ofcomplications of diabetes mellitus (DM). Sample of 94 patientswith diabetes who are treated at the Clinic of Internal MedicineMuhammadiyah Palembang Hospital, taken by purposivesampling technique. Data analysis using chi square (bivariate)and logistic regression (multivariate). The results showed thatthere is relationship between age (p=0.024), education(p=0.033), knowledge (p=0.035), attitude (p=0.039), andfamily support (p=0.011) with the patient’s behavior. There isno relationship between the sexes (p=0.762) and employment(p=0.408) with the patient’s behavior. Multivariate analysisshowed support of families be a determining factor in the patient’sbehavior prevention of DM complications (OR=4.260).Key words: behavior, diabetes mellitus, complications,prevention
