Abstract

The purpose of this quasi experiment with posttest
only control group design was to examine the effectiveness
of urine catheterization using anesthetics jelly and water based
lubricant for male patients’ pain response. Thirty patients of
RSUD Muntilan and PKU Muhammadiyah DIY were
recruited using nonprobability sampling with purposive
sampling method, divided into experiment group and control
group. The Mann-Whitney test indicated a significant
difference in urine catheterization pain score response using
anesthetics jelly and common jelly for male patients (p value
0.000). From this study, anesthetics jelly was recommended
to use with 3 min delay following installation of anesthetics
jelly before urine catheterization for male patients.
Key words: urine catheterization, anesthetics jelly, pain
