Abstract

Penuaan pada sistem respirasi terjadi penurunan ukuran otot interkostalis menyebabkan penurunan kekuatan otot pernafasan. Selain itu penurunan kontraktilitas otot diafragma yang mempengaruhi tekanan inspirasi dan ekspirasi yang juga berhubungan dengan ekspansi thorax. Respiratory Muscle Stretch Gymnastic merupakan latihan kombinasi penguluran otot pernafasan dan breathing exercise yang bertujuan untuk meningkatkan ekspansi thorax pada lansia. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh Respiratory Muscle Stretch Gymnastic (RMSG) tehadap ekspansi thorax pada lansia. Desain penelitian menggunakan pretest-posttest with control group. Penelitian ini menggunakan purposive sampling didapatkan 30 responden yang terbagi dalam kelompok intervensi dan kontrol. Pengukuran ekspansi thorax menggunakan midline (pita ukur) yang dilaksanakan sebelum dan sesudah perlakuan. RMSG dilaksanakan 6 kali/ minggu selama 4 minggu. Analisis data uji normalitas shapiro-wilk dan uji hipotesis paired sampel t test dan wilcoxon signed ranks. Berdasarkan hasil uji hipotesis didapat hasil nilai signifikansi 0,000 <0,05. Terdapat pengaruh Respiratory Muscle Stretch Gymnastic (RMSG) terhadap ekspansi thorax pada lansia.
